Prof. Samama is a full Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine at Groupe hospitalo-universitaire (GHU) Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) Centre–Université Paris Cité, Cochin Hospital. He is a Past President of the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA) and a former Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) and the European Journal of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EJAIC).
He is a former Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) and the founding Chair of the Scientific and Standardization Committee Subcommittee on Perioperative and Critical Care Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), where he currently serves as a co-chair. In 2025, he was named an Honorary Member of ESAIC.
He currently serves as Director of the Office of Scientific Integrity at AP-HP. His research focuses on perioperative hemostasis, critical care thrombosis, and anticoagulation management. He has published 271 peer-reviewed articles and reviews, with an H-index of 55 according to Web of Science. He has also contributed to major international clinical guidelines, including the 2018 European guidelines on perioperative venous thromboembolism prophylaxis and their first update published in 2024.
